Wall Shelves & Wrought Iron: An Excellent Combination
By Alisa Davis
Wall shelves make it easy to transform a bare space into a stylish focal point. Especially in areas where space it at a premium, such as an entry, a wall shelve lets you create a display without the need to introduce a larger, more expensive piece of furniture. Add in the versatility of wrought iron wall decor, and you have the recipe for decorating success. Wall Shelves and Wrought Iron Candle Sconces A combo that is appropriate for any room of any style starts with a classic set of wrought iron wall sconces. Choose any that fit your personal style – from elaborate Old World to casual cottage or sleek contemporary. Hang a framed work of art on the wall and mount your shelf about eight inches below it. Group small collectibles on the shelf and enhance the grouping with wrought candle wall sconces hung on either side of the shelf or staggered to one side. For a more contemporary look, hang the framed art so that it appears to be resting on the shelf, offset to either side. Set a tall item, such as a vase or piece of sculpture on the other end of the shelf and mount one larger wall sconce to balance the arrangement. Combine these elements to suit you, light the candles and let them cast their glow and fragrance throughout the space. Framed Mirrors and Wall Shelves Use a framed wall mirror in a similar fashion, combining it with a wall shelf and sconces. Arrange decorative items on the shelf and the mirror will reflect their images throughout the room. The mirror/wall shelf combination is especially advantageous in a small entry or narrow wall opposing a window because the mirror will capture and reflect light, making the space feel larger and brighter. Adding a pair of wrought iron wall sconces will make the mirror even more attractive as it casts soft candlelight throughout the space. Combining Wrought Iron Wall Art and Shelves Wrought iron wall art can be found in everything from floral inspired designs to Mediterranean influences or simple modern shapes. Many pieces of wrought iron wall art include color that enhances the inherent design. By installing a shelf below a piece of wrought iron you can repeat these colors in the items that you display on the shelf. Flowers and flower arrangements, sculpture, and collectibles of any kind can arranged on the shelf to create a unified and trendy look. Clocks and Wall Shelves A wrought iron wall clock placed above a shelf is a natural focal point that can fit any style of decorating in any color scheme. Gather favorite accessories on the shelf, such as small framed photos, candlesticks, ceramic vases, glass paper weights, miniature gas lanterns – any of your favorite collectible and accessories. Repeat colors, shapes and themes for impact. For example, an antique finish wrought iron wall clock can be flanked by smaller vintage style clocks arranged on the wall shelf. The benefit of wall shelves is that they can be used to display and showcase your favorite collectibles in any amount of space while creating a unique multi-dimensional focal point. They are truly versatile and even more appealing when combined with the timeless beauty of wrought iron accents. Photo from Flickr - "Wrought Iron Flowers" courtesy of theknitsteel. |
