It seemed like yesterday when you used the Flower Power theme in the bedroom for your children. You didn’t notice how fast the time flew but now, you suddenly realized that your daughters are not children anymore. Because they are now in their pre-teens, they have outgrown the cartoon character theme; so it’s time to do some redecorating. Your first question is: ‘what theme to use?’ What about a garden theme?
A garden theme would be an excellent choice because your daughters have just grown out of the ‘girlie’ theme—but they are not grown-up enough for mature themes. A garden-themed bedroom design would be light and not too serious; so it will be appropriate for pre-teens.
Here are some great tips on how to use garden theme in bedroom for pre-teens:
1. Use flowers to create a country cottage ambiance.
A typical country cottage is often surrounded with flowers. Look for wallpaper borders with flower designs. You may also decorate the walls with outdoor cut-outs. Use stencils to create other outdoor scenes. If the room is quite large, you may stencil a big tree on the wall; and add garden items like a picket fence, vines, grasses, cats, bunnies, birds, butterflies, and some large puffs of white clouds.
Focus on the flower theme when selecting the beddings, curtains, and the floor rugs. Flowers and butterflies are always excellent choices. The key is to keep them light but colorful. Choose pastel shades because they look cool and fresh.
2. Paint the walls blue; use wallpaper shaded in blue; and hang wall arts that are colored blue.
Blue represents the color of the sky; but do not imitate the exact shade of the blue skies. Scatter patches of clouds to help lighten the surroundings.
Decorate the walls with various wall art pieces like leaves metal wall hangings. Wall arts often come in different sizes and shapes. Just make sure that this type of metal wall hangings will exist harmoniously with the other elements in the bedroom: like the furniture, the carpet, the drapes, and the beddings.
