Stylish and Unique – On a Budget!

For many people, creating and sticking to a budget is the most important part of redecorating their homes. Fortuitously, there are some stylish and unique decorating options that are super-affordable for those on even the most meager budgets. By viewing your decor budget as a challenge to be creative instead of a constraint to live by, you will find that you get a lot for your money! The budget conscious decorating tips and ideas that follow will help. Lending a Personal Feel There are other avenues of decorating your home other than purchasing decorative accessories. Look for different opportunities to add a personal feel to your space. Perhaps you are crafty or artistic. If so, you might look into making some decorative items for your home. But even if you possess the artistic talent of a sack of potatoes, you can still bring in personalized touches without spending a lot of money. Displaying a collection of toy cars or other memorabilia on a shelf in your den or family room, or decorating the mantel in the living room with your family photograph collection is a good start. Movie posters, thimbles, spoons, dolls, post cards, and other collectible items can become wonderful decorative additions to the decor within your home. What’s more, you will be able to free up some of your storage space by getting these items out on display. Reusing and Repurposing Reusing, repurposing and recycling are three great ways to live “green” while saving money at the same time! This is true of home decor and furniture as well. If you are weary of using one particular item in one room, think about using it in a new way someplace else within the home. For instance, you can take a chair that no longer matches your living room and move it to your bedroom to provide you with seating for reading and relaxing. Use those mismatched cups and saucers to plant an herb garden in your kitchen. By thinking creatively, you will discover lots of fun and useful ways to reuse, repurpose, and recycle. Bringing in Natural Elements Gifts from Mother Nature’s bounty are also wonderful for creating a fun decorative look within your home. Bring a touch of nature inside to add unique style to your space without spending any money at all. For instance, flowers plucked from your yard or garden can fill vases throughout your home, from the living room to the bedroom to the kitchen. You might also think about drying flowers, which can provide you with material for flower sachets and bouquets, potpourri, and wreaths. Adding beauty to your home might also be as simple as snapping some shots of natural scenes and then printing them off and framing them for one-of-a-kind wall art hangings. Gathered pinecones are a great way to show off your ingenuity in using found objects as decor; place them in a basket and display them on your mantel. (They also make great fire starters). Nonconventional Finds And last of all, don’t overlook the possibility of going with used decorative items and furniture. This is not only a green choice that helps to keep other folks’ items out of the landfill, but it can be a big money-saver. Flea markets, tag sales, garage sales, Craigslist, Ebay.Com, and other venues are great places to look for treasures for your home that won’t cost the proverbial “arm and leg”, but are just as stylish. After all, one man’s “junk” is invariably another man’s “treasure”.
