Ideas for Decorating a Teen Boy’s Bedroom in a Baseball Theme
By Alisa Davis
If you have a son who is obsessed with baseball and that obsession extends to his personal style, then decorating his room in a baseball theme is a step in the right direction. And it’s actually not difficult to decorate a bedroom with a baseball theme. Starting Point If your son is excited about baseball and his favorite team, then he will also be excited about decorating his bedroom with baseball paraphernalia. So tell him to roll up his sleeves and help you with the decorating. Next, choose the colors of the room based on your son’s favorite baseball team. Once you’ve done that then you can start to paint the walls. Now, there are a few colors to choose from, so the color selection is very important. A common color among baseball themes is the color white so that’s a perfect choice for wall color. Make sure you choose a semi-gloss latex paint that is easy to clean. Use other team colors as accents to the white color. For example, a room based around the Yankees baseball team will be in the colors white and navy. You can paint the trim around the room the accent colors of your favorite team, or you can paint stripes going up and down the wall with the team’s colors. Add more team spirit by stenciling the team’s logo on the wall. It can be done in a large-scale format in a prime location, or used on smaller scale as a border around the room. Now think about the bedding. Of course you want to bring in team colors once again. You may be able to find official team bedding, or to keep the room from looking overdone, use solid, stripe or block colored fabrics in team colors. Other furniture in the room can be part of the team as well. Colored felt can be cut into pennants, baseballs or bats and glued inexpensive storage cubes that can be stacked to accommodate books, sports gear, sweatshirts, and so forth. Peel n’stick laser decals in team logo or baseball designs can be used on furniture, mirrors and windows without leaving any residue or damage. Of course framed posters of favorite players, a framed team jersey, or a collage of collected baseball cards makes for inexpensive wall art. Another way to embellish walls is to install wood wall shelves and prop up framed pictures of players along with baseball caps, figurines and collectibles. Remember, your son’s room is about him and his personal style and taste. Keep the decoration simple and to the point, but most importantly keep it about him and his love of baseball.
