Four-Season Room: Winter-Inspired Decor

By Alisa Davis

Part of the beauty of a four-season room is that it allows you to enjoy every season of the year from the indoor comfort of your home. When a four-season room includes spectacular views of the great outdoors, follow Mother Nature’s lead and reflect winter’s beauty from the inside out. Put away warm or fall seasonal accents and choose accents that mimic the stark pristine splendor of winter.

Canvas Wall Art – Winter Style

While nature dons a more somber tone in winter, there is nothing boring about the intricacies of the winter landscape. Bare branches, majestic evergreens, and faded tall summer grasses take on a surreal architectural essence. The brilliance of a red twig dogwood or the flash of scarlet cardinal wings at a feeder provide vibrant splashes of crimson against pure white snow and steely grey skies. Capture such natural wonders in canvas wall art that depicts winter landscapes, snowy mountain scenes, and winter birds and wildlife. Groupings of three or four canvases can provide a focal point on a large wall or be hung individually between windows mimic the outdoor scenery. Repeat elements within the canvas wall art – such as birds or pine boughs – with wall art and accessories throughout the room that echo the same winter images.

The Sparkle of Hexagon Wall Mirrors & Candle Wall Sconces

Snowflakes are crystalline wonders of nature, each intricately unique. Suggest their beauty indoors with crystal-encrusted hexagon mirrors. Join seven hexagon-shaped mirrors as a focal point in your four-season room and they will form a work of art that mimics the shape of a snowflake.

Add shimmer to your mirror arrangement with an array of glistening candles set throughout the room. Place some on a table or console below the mirrors and place others on candle wall sconces that will reflect their light throughout the room as moonlight falls on snowdrifts just outside your window. Candles add cozy comfort in winter, so use them liberally throughout your four-season room, highlighting focal points with candle wall sconces, lantern style candle holders and trays holding pillar candles of varying heights. Sprinkle a few glass beads between the candles on the tray for additional shimmer and warm winter ambiance.

Wrought Iron Wall Decor

Intricate wrought iron is as visually appealing and intricate as a snowflake and round wrought iron wall décor is especially suggestive of snowflakes. Choose a piece that suites your decorating preference. You will find open or mirror-backed styles in a wide selection of colors and finishes. A white or light finish will complement dark colored walls and darker wrought iron will stand out against lighter shades.

Finish by swapping out pillows and cushions from warm weather fabrics and colors to cozy, snuggly chenille, fleece, corduroy and wool blends in shades that complement the winter landscape. The tropical patterns of summer and colorful leaves of fall should give way to comfortable plaids, checks and thick napped solid fabrics that add heft and warmth. A cozy freestanding electric fireplace that looks like an old fashion wood stove can chase away the chill on the coldest winter night while you enjoy the magic of a starry winter night snug inside your four-season room.
