Decorating Around Your Bed for a Stylish View
By Anna Young
In most bedrooms, the bed is the unmistakable and often beautiful focal point of the room. However, when waking up each morning, the first thing you see is the area directly across from your bed and if that is uninspiring, you may start off the day feeling flat. This area requires some attention in order to create a view that inspires you or makes you feel happy. Since the bedroom is a personal space, it is ideal for enjoying personal accents and design touches that have personal meaning. Whether you want to get very creative and detailed or take a simpler approach, explore the following suggestions for making the portion of your bedroom a beautifully, personalized focal point. Using Some Creativity Many homeowners use decor in their bedrooms that is a direct reflection of their personality and style. This works well in the bedroom because it is a private space; so you can feel free to display photographs, artwork and other meaningful touches that might be too personal for more public spaces. Of course, you can use as much color, shape and texture as you want. Choose personal art pieces, vinyl wall quotes, family photographs and other forms of art to decorate the space across the room from where your bed is arranged. When you have an additional piece of large furniture, such as a dresser, you can place it in this space and then use some creativity to decorate around the piece. Make sure your decor blends well with the furniture finish and style. Create a display of a group of photos in frames. Frames should be alike in style, color or texture and blend with the furnishings in the room. If you have a large wall in your bedroom, you may choose to create a focal area instead of using the bed as the focal point. Remaining Basic and Simple Some individuals decide to make their bedroom an extension of the style that is used throughout the remainder of the house. This works well when the home is in a country or traditional style. Vintage style also works well with this method of decorating. When attempting to sell your home, this design style is part of an effective staging process and it adds continuity from room to room. A simple, unified approach works with various styles of decor. Basic decor such as an accent wall in a separate color will help keep your style classic. If the furnishings in the room are located on this wall, you may hang a pair of wall hangings to give depth to the appearance. A woven tapestry, metal wall hanging or other great art pieces will add character to the area while remaining basic and simple. Bringing It All Together Once you have brought the look together, you can wake up inspired and reenergized. Be sure to create a balance between the personal items you use and the room decor. Whether you go simple or more extravagant in your design, repetition of color, stylistic elements and textures will create the best overall effect.
