Decorate the Kitchen with Wall Planters
By Alisa Davis
Wall planters can add a perfect decorative touch to your kitchen. Whether you have a lot of wall space, or just a little, there are wall planters and pockets in exactly the right size and style to accent your walls. Here are a few ideas on how to decorate a kitchen with wall planters. Focal point ideas for any style Wall pockets and wall planters can work with any style of decorating, from casual to traditional, or Tuscan to cottage. • Include a distressed metal wall planter in a color like sun-drenched sienna to flavor a focal point with an Old World motif. Combine it with a vineyard-theme mounted wine wall rack, framed mirror, Tuscan inspired wall plates or prints to add more dimension to your walls. Graceful vines and a cluster of artificial grapes tucked into the planter will complement the vineyard theme. Wrought iron wall candle sconces are another accent that could be used with your wall planter. • Use a series of three painted wall pockets with rooster plates on a wall to tie into a French country theme or an American farmhouse look. Sunflowers, countryside, farm animals, and still life paintings can all be enhanced with a wall pocket or wall vase that includes colors and blooms that complement the color and theme. • Try a wall vase beside a pair of vertically hung wall shelves or a triple-shelf wall unit. The strong vertical shape of the wall vase will balance the horizontal lines of the shelves. Fill your wall vase with dried or season-appropriate artificial blooms. • Wall pockets and vases in shades of white add instant cottage charm to your walls. Dried flower favorites like lavender or strawflowers gathered with a gingham or grosgrain ribbon to bring a fresh garden accent to the kitchen. • Add simply modern accents with hanging glass vases that will hold bouquets of your favorite fresh blooms. Modern glass wall vases make perfect pairings with bold graphic print and designs. Accents up above In a kitchen with space above the upper cabinets, hang a wall planter near the top side panel of the last cabinet. Add a decorative wicker or metal basket on top of the cabinet near the edge and add greenery of your choice. Add additional greens, branches, or blooms of your choice and let vines tumble out of the wall vase, creating a cascading accent of full of garden splendor. Little touches for smaller spaces • Wall pockets are exactly the right size for small kitchen spaces between windows, next to doors, or beside a pantry door. Use them as is or add dried herbs for a breath of fresh fragrance. Hang them in even intervals to create rhythm and interest along a soffit or above a sliding door. • Hang wall pockets from shaker style pegs, glass knobs or wall hooks for a little decorative surprise. • The drab end of a row of cabinets can get a visual lift by adding a wall planter full of beautiful blooms.
