Create Wonders at Home Through Wall Grilles
By Alisa Davis
Common decors to hang on walls often include paintings, mirrors, clocks, pictures, and modern wall art. Have you ever thought decorating the walls of your home with some lovely grilles? Wall grilles can be found in any size and come in round, square, rectangular and domed shapes; because they are flat they add dimension to your walls and can be used almost anywhere and they add architectural interest. Here are some tips on how to use wall grilles as design accents: 1. Grilles are a perfect solution for not-so-perfect walls. There is no need to plaster or repair minor imperfections in the wall when using grilles. Just add them to a wall, alone or together with other decorative details. Choose finishes in a similar color as the wall to achieve a subtle embossed effect or go for contrast, such as a dark grille against a light colored wall, to make a grille a focal point. 2. Grilles can be placed in different locations without fuss. Traditional grilles were often used as protection on doors and windows. As modern decors, these can be placed on any wall and in any part of your home. All you have to do is decide how you wish decorate with wall grilles. Here are some examples: • Over a sofa (in the living room) • Over a fireplace (above the mantelpiece) • Over an entry way (on top of the door frame) There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ when hanging a wall grille; for example, a square grille can be hung at right angles or you can hang it from one of the points so that it creates a diamond shape. You simply have to create a balance so that there will be harmony in the design of the entire room. 3. Decorative iron grilles are stable investments in a rocky economy. Even while watching your pennies, you may still find durable iron grilles that will last for a long, long time. Wall grilles are an affordable option to more expensive works of art and they require little maintenance, other than dusting. Wall grilles will last a long time and are versatile enough to be used in any room and with any style of decor. 4. Coat your wall grilles with clear spray paints to get that brand-new ‘look’. It doesn’t matter if you couldn’t afford to buy the popular brands of paint; or if your grilles were placed indoors or outdoors. Any brand of spray paints shall work wonders on your iron grilles without any extra cost. These clear coats will protect the surface from dirt and rust. Or let them look aged and rusty to go with a country or shabby chic decor. When selecting wall decors for your home, you should always consider wall grilles as one of the choices. They possess classical beauty, yet durable and adaptable. These are attractive when hanged on a wall alone; fantastic when put together with a mirror and/or pictures.
