Create a Stylish Living Room with Wrought Iron Wall Art
By Alisa Davis
Wrought iron is the one interior décor accent material that has it all: Classic beauty, durability, artisan craftsmanship and versatility. Capable of adding greater appeal to any style room, dark wrought iron finishes provide wonderful contrast and depth on light colored walls. White and cream wrought iron works its magic in cottage and country style rooms where it can contrast with deep colors or provide dimensional relief against pastels or neutrals. In addition to color options, you’ll find an almost limitless number of decorative accessories made from wrought iron, so you can find exactly the right accent for any room of any style: From traditionally rich Mediterranean decors to American Colonial and everything in between. Choose from architectural accessories like wall grilles and plagues that add depth and texture to your walls, to window shutters and garden gates. Or select smaller accessories for any room: Framed wall mirrors and photo frames, wall wine racks, candlesticks and wall sconces, decorative rods and finials for curtains or tapestries, decorative wall hooks, plant stands, lamps, vases, wall vases, sculptures and clocks – there is no end to beautifully handcrafted decorative items made from wrought iron. Decorating with Wrought Iron Wall Art Like all types of wall art, wrought iron wall art should be mounted so its center or focal point is at approximate eye level. Let a large piece grace an oversize wall on its own or offset it with smaller pieces. Accent an alcove, a short diagonal wall or a soffit with wrought iron grilles to give it architectural interest. Bring a cohesive look to a room by accenting a wrought iron wall grille with smaller items of wrought iron, such as a table lamp or vase. Because wrought iron is so eye-catching, use it where you want to create a dramatic focal point. Over a fireplace mantle, a wrought iron wall grille provides a wonderful alternative to a painting. The non-glare nature of wrought iron, coupled with its inherent scrolling and open weaving, brings dramatic depth when the grille is flanked by candle wall sconces and lit candles. Or combine wrought iron candle wall sconces with traditional landscape or European style paintings for a classic look. Using Wrought Iron with Any Style Wrought iron is a natural with European, Tuscan or Spanish style interiors because the rustic elegance of wrought iron blends so perfectly with the warm colors and relaxed ambiance of these interiors. Use it in grilles, picture frames, framed mirrors and decorative rods and finials to hold window treatments and wall tapestries. Of course a wrought iron wine rack is the perfect touch in a Tuscan kitchen or dining room. But wrought iron works with other styles as well. Country interiors provide a charming backdrop for painted wrought iron that features floral and leaf motifs, and wrought iron hanging lighting fixtures add a touch of authenticity to primitive country or Early American interiors. A sophisticated traditional room can be accented with fleur-de-lis wrought iron designs and a quintessential California bungalow gets a punch of high contrast when black wrought iron is used to juxtapose the bright colors and intricate designs of Spanish floor and wall tiles.
