Create a Fireplace Suitable for a Banquet Hall

Although banquet halls are big on space, they often lack a certain amount of charm, warmth and personality. These large and cavernous rooms can often be quite challenging to decorate, even for experienced decorators. Creating a strong visual focal point within the room is one of the best ways to decorate one of these large rooms. Adding a magnificent fireplace is one way to create a strong focal point that will fill the space while also adding personality and warmth to the room. Although it can sometimes be a rather challenging task, the end result can be well worth the effort. Here are some tips you can use to simplify the task of adding a large fireplace feature to a large room. Measure Carefully Whether you plan to add a real or a faux fireplace, careful measurements are absolutely critical to the success of your project. Take the time to measure the wall, as well as the overall room. Then, create a sketch of the area, marking the location of doors, windows, tables and other important room features. These measurements and sketches will help you choose the most visually striking place for your fireplace. Fireplace Placement Once you've completed the measuring and sketching process, you'll be ready to choose the best fireplace location. Start by considering the wall that offers the most visibility and space. Ideally, this is where the fireplace should be placed. Once you've chosen the location, decide on the overall size of the fireplace. If your room is quite large, the fireplace should be proportionally large as well. Try out different width and height measurements, using a center mark as your guide. By carefully considering each size and shape configuration, you'll be able to decide upon the most striking look for the room. Exploring Your Options Once you've made your initial decisions, plan a trip to your local fireplace specialty store. Browse the various options and fireplace styles, comparing the features. You'll find prefabricated electric fireplaces, which can be quite simple to put in place. There are also gas fireplaces available, but these generally require proper gas line installation. Compare the various sizes and components to choose one that is proportional to your planned location. If necessary, you can also choose to have your mantel and facade custom-built to fit your exact needs. Or, choose a standard large size in order to save on time and money. It's important to take the time to choose the proper fireplace, since it will become the focal point of the room. Details Since banquet halls are generally used for formal dinners and affairs, fireplaces for these rooms are traditionally detailed and ornate. As such, a fireplace frame and mantel made from fine wood finished in glossy varnish will probably look better than one which is simply painted. Cherry or mahogany wood are timeless and classic wood choices for elegant fireplaces. Carved detailing can also add a lot of visual interest, while also giving the room a more formal look.
