Budget Decor Ideas for Your Home Office
By Anna Young
The home office should be comfortable and organized for high efficiency, but you also want it to be aesthetically pleasing and eye-catching. In essence, you want to create a working space where you actually want to work. You don’t have to recreate an office environment in your home office in order to get your work done. After all, your home office is located in your home, and you want your home to look good. You also don’t need to spend a small budget to create a space that you’ll love. The budget décor ideas that follow will help you to create an attractive and functional home office space on a low-ball budget. Inspiration from Vibrant Color Although the office supply store down the street has everything that you will need to create a home office, they cannot sell you character or personalization for your space. It takes you to add beautiful touches like wrought iron décor to turn your home office into an inspiring place to do what has to be done each day. Vibrant colors in the home office are conducive to productivity, and painting the home office in your favorite shades is an inexpensive way to spice things up in this utilitarian space. Choose warm colors that will invigorate your body and your mind, and steer away from colors that are cool as they tend to suppress your energy. Add color without making the space seem overwhelming by painting your walls in neutral shades of yellow, red, or orange, or bring in unique home décor that is done in energetic color palettes. Inexpensive Storage for Your Desktop While you may not be able to afford an expensive desk, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that there are, indeed, many inexpensive desk options on the market. Retrofitting your desktop with additional storage for files and other items can transform your desk into one that rivals more expensive versions. Simply add stacking shelving units to the desktop or on the sides of your desk, leaving room in the center for working. Magnetic Note Board - DIY An easy DIY project for the home office can be made using a paint primer that contains a magnetic additive. This is much less costly than readymade magnetic memo boards. You can choose nearly any color when creating this DIY board. Begin by using painter’s tape to mark off an area that is right behind or next to your desk area. Use four coats of primer with magnetic additive to paint the area that you have marked off, and then cover the space with a paint color in your choice. This will create an incredibly strong magnetic board that you can use to personalize the office space. Repurposed Containers for Holding Office Supplies And last of all, create a personalized space by bringing in repurposed containers for holding your many office supplies. Woven baskets can hold rubber bands and staples, vases can become pencil cups, and vintage jewelry boxes can hold post-it notes and paper clips. These are much more stylish options that what you can buy in the office supply store, and you can use items that work with the overall theme of your office for individualized style. |
