Any Home Can Have a Library

If you have ever wanted to have a library in your home, there is absolutely no reason why you should wait another minute. Depending on the space that you have available, your home library can be anything from a reading nook to an entire room. You can dress it to have a soothing, dark, worn wood feel of a traditional library, or you car design a bright, crisp stylish space. Create a space that makes reading fun, and you will have your own, personal library. Shelves Set the Tone
Depending on the style that you choose for your library, you may want to have your bookshelves go from floor to ceiling, you may want to be able to see over them, or you may consider mounting them to the wall. Whether they are grand or diminutive, dark or light wood, laminate or metal, most importantly they need to be sturdy enough to securely hold your books and roomy enough to expand your collection.
Make Seating Comfortable
Make sure that you allow for a comfortable place to sit and read. Again depending on the size of your library you may opt for an armchair with a footstool or a chaise lounge. A stepstool to reach your top shelf is also a handy addition to the room. If you have a window in your library, place your primary reading space where you can enjoy natural lighting coming over your shoulder. Also make sure that you have a side table to hold your drink or glasses or maybe even to lay your book so it is ready for you to pick up tomorrow right where you left off. Arrange Books with Eye Appeal
You can sort your books by color, by size or by shape, and you can even arrange your books on the shelves interspersed with accessories to add some visual interest to the display.
As your collection grows you may want to organize your books by subject, and then you can add accessories to each shelf that identify the subject. For example, if you have a section on animals you may want to display your lucky horseshoe, or for a section on art you may want to display your paintbrushes.
As your collection grows and you acquire some more valuable books consider adding glass doors on one section of shelving to offer a little more protection to these books from the elements. Finish Off with Accessories
When you accessorize your library, consider the complete look of the room and how it fits into your home. Your accessories can be used to unify mismatched pieces of furniture and integrate the library into your house’s current design. They can also be used to set it apart from the rest of your house, so it can be a true respite from your hectic world.
If you are opting for a more traditional looking library choose old, leather bound books, antique maps, decorative lighting, a carpet in rich jewel tones and some antique furniture sprinkled throughout the room. If you are going for a more modern look, then you can use bright colored accessories and more interesting and sculptural elements in your room. You can have a little fun with your artwork, and frame some of your favorite sayings, hang portraits of your favorite authors, or just enjoy colorful modern art pieces.
