Add a Soft Touch to Your Living Room Space with Wall Graphics
By Anna Young
When choosing the overall design of your room, don’t overlook the use of traditional graphics. Even though you may not right away associate traditional graphics for the wall when thinking about your modern living room, the fact is that they can go together quite well. Adding a soft touch to a modern room can be as simple as using traditional graphics. The tips and ideas that follow will help you to combine modern style with a traditional flare. Selecting the Right Wall Graphic for Your Space The key to blending traditional good looks with contemporary flare is to choose a graphic for the wall that exudes you own personal sense of style. Prior to choosing a graphic, draw inspiration from you living room. Creating a striking combination means paying attention to the slightest details within the space. For instance, a vase brimming with lilies might provide the inspiration that you need to select a fleur-de-lis graphic for your wall. Or you may wish to go with a striped graphic set that can easily be combined with modern décor. Stripes can also accentuate the modern angles and sleek style elements of modern furniture while still giving the room a touch of the traditional. Floral wall graphics can also find a place in modern decor when you select florals with clean colors and simple shapes that are not too busy. Innovative Uses for Wall Graphics Using your creativity to come up with ways to play modern styling off of the traditional wall graphic! For instance, the use of floral wall paper on your living room wall may appear a bit to traditional whereas using single floor wall graphics can leave behind a modern look. In lieu of using patterned wall paper with a fleur-de-lis motif, experiment by stenciling a large fleur-de-lis upon the wall. It is typically a better idea to use a traditional wall graphic that is not too overpowering in your space than to go with a huge graphic that may look way out of place. Designs Inspired by Wall Graphics While it may be a simple matter to select a wall graphic for your living room that is based on other patterns that you might enjoy within the space, the opposite strategy can likewise be employed. Any traditional wall graphic that catches your “fancy” may be used in the living room, since there are no hard and fast rules governing your choice of graphic. Select a graphic that you like and then work to mirror that graphic in small ways within the room. This works to tie the concept together. For instance, if you stumble across a floral wall graphic that you really adore, you can tie it in with the overall scheme of the room with the addition of freshly cut flowers that you have placed in a vase, or by hanging a floral print or painting. |
