6 Easy Tips on Cleaning Your Home and Wall Art
By Alyssa Davis
Do you hate cleaning your home? Do you often look for other chores to do so that you can avoid cleaning the house? You may feel tired or just downright lazy. Oftentimes, you don’t have enough time. However, this is one chore that should be done, whether you like it or not. Dirt build-up inside the house may give negative effects to everyone living at home. The smaller the dirt, the more dangerous it is; so you must get rid of dust, skin follicles, and bits of hair that are often found on furniture and décor pieces. Here are 6 easy tips on how to clean the whole house top to bottom, including your favorite wall decor: 1 .Clean the whole house, following a top-to-bottom approach: Start cleaning from the top floor to the ground floor. Begin your cleaning at the topmost story of your home and work your way down. With a one-floor house, start cleaning from the perimeter or the outer sides and work towards the center of the floor; or you may start from the inside wall of the room toward the door. This method will prevent leaving dirt behind on the carpets as you vacuum along, making your cleaning routine effective and efficient. You won’t have to go back and clean after your tracks. 2. In the individual rooms: follow the top-to-bottom approach again. When you use a methodical strategy for cleaning each room, you will not need to spend as much time on cleaning. Start with the walls. Using a dry and clean rag, wipe down the wall surface. With a duster, swab off the dust from each wall décor, such as music note wall hangings or wrought iron wall art. Take each one off the wall for better cleaning. The next in line is the furniture, starting with the tallest and ending with the shortest. Wipe off the accumulated dust with dry rag or duster. Whenever needed, rub on a thin film of furniture polish to protect the wood finish of the furniture. The last step is mopping the floor or vacuuming the carpet. Start from the farthest corner of room and, walking backwards, work toward the doorway. Following this method will not only be efficient and thorough, it will help you avoid unnecessary repetition of tasks. 3. Use the appropriate cleaning formula on special items. Removing the dust and dirt from your wall art is as important as cleaning the furniture. Regular cleaning of wall art will prevent thick accumulation of dust and dirt. Some pieces may require special cleaning techniques; refer to any manufacturer recommendations before using any cleaning products. For general cleaning of metal wall art that has tarnished, dip a steel wool pad in kerosene or turpentine before rubbing away rust or discoloration. On tougher spots, apply ‘elbow grease’ and rub vigorously with the steel pad. After the rust was removed, apply a light coat of protective furniture polish. The wax will help protect the wall décor from moisture. To seal a piece permanently, apply one coat of paint or sealer that is specially-formulated for wrought iron.
