6 Easy Tips on Choosing Wall Color before Art Wall Decor
By Alisa Davis
Which should you do first: paint the wall or choose art for the wall? You can go either way. If a room suites you and you need to add a focal point or want to change the look, let existing décor and accents influence your choice of wall art. Or, if you a redecorating a room, fall in love with a piece of wall art and let it guide every decorative choice that you make for that room. When selecting wall art, you will need to consider type, size, arrangement and color. Here are some tips for selecting room color: 1. Use textile samples when choosing the paint colors. Every element inside your room should complement each other. Before choosing the color of the wall, assemble samples of the curtains, floor tile, wallpaper, and furniture. This will help you decide on the particular shade of paint that will create a beautiful backdrop for a particular room. 2. The trims should complement the color of the wall. Trims for the doors, windows, and moldings are typically pale in color, white, or even off-white. If you wanted a bit bolder, you could use dark-colored trims against light-colored walls. This combination can perfectly complement wall art décor. 3. Select the color of the wall after you have chosen the decors. Painting the walls with your color choice is easy and quick; but you should not rush on choosing the wall color and the other decorations. It is important to make a plan before deciding on any options. Keep in mind that the wall color is just one of the many pieces that you have to put together to create harmony in the decoration of your room. 4. Use the ideal finish for the walls. The shiny finish on walls creates an effect when lights reflect on them. However, walls with flat or matte finishes hide the flaws on the walls’ surface. 5. Select a ‘base’ color as your wall paint. Consider choosing a ‘base’ version of all the hues of the different types of textile inside the room will help you decide on the color tone of the art wall décor. These wall decorations can be in lighter or darker tone as contrast to the wall’s hue. 6. Study the different shades, hues, and tones of colors. You must have studied the color wheel when you were at school. Primary colors consist of blue, yellow, and red. Secondary colors are produced when you mixed two primary colors. The tertiary colors are results of the same procedure. You can get lighter shades of a desired hue by adding white to the mix. Mix in some black or brown colors to create darker shades and tones.
